Supporting Young Professionals in our Industry

Recognizing that strong leaders drive the future of the produce and floral industry, the Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence supports young professionals in our industry by advancing their careers through the development of leadership skills.

The Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence was created in 2008 to honor the life and career of Tip Murphy, a beloved 15-year veteran of the produce industry. The scholarship covers the cost of registration for one of the PMA or CGT programs & events, including:

Who Should Apply?

Applicant must meet requirements:

  • Meet any criteria established for the program or event selected
  • Be willing to recruit future applicants for this scholarship opportunity

To be eligible, candidate must:

  • Be employed in any segment of the produce and floral supply chain both at the time of the application and at the time of the chosen event
  • Have been employed in the produce industry for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Demonstrate character, leadership and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the industry
  • Agree to speak at CGT activities about the scholarship and development opportunity

I feel that my participation in the Emerging Leaders Program will only help to grow my leadership skills. I’m confident that the program and the experience with my peers will have a beneficial impact on both my leadership skills and career. I am honored to be selected as a recipient of the Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence. Tip Murphy’s legacy continues to impact the produce industry on multiple levels, and this scholarship is one such way to pay tribute to a person that was so passionate about our industry. I want to thank the scholarship committee for their selection, as well as the donors that have made this scholarship possible which will have positive impacts on our industry for years to come. I am very excited to attend the Emerging Leaders Program for my professional development and to represent Nicholas and Company among a cohort of leaders that spans the global supply chain. The opportunity is tremendous to learn from industry leaders, to be supported by professional coaching during the program, and to be involved in engaged learning with peers from many different segments of the same industry.
